Course Description (for SIS)
This course is designed to help educators develop an understanding of principles and practices related to addressing academic diversity in contemporary classrooms. This course will emphasize both theory and practice useful in addressing gifted students' learning needs across general education and gifted classrooms, issues related to differentiation, environments that support responsive teaching, principles of effective classroom differentiation, instructional and management strategies that support differentiation, and the roles of assessment in differentiation. The course is structured to assist participants in developing approaches to modifying content, process, and products in mixed ability classrooms in order to address the varied readiness, interest, and learning profile needs of gifted learners. This class is based on knowledge and understandings from the other three courses in the endorsement series.
