Science gives us a special kind of understanding of the world. This seminar will focus on some of the ways it does that, including scientific explanation, discoveries of causal relations, the use of different types and levels of representation, inductive inferences, a commitment to scientific realism, the use of formal theories, and so on. Requirements will include regular short papers and a research paper. Prerequisties: at least one of PHIL 2330, 2420, 2450, 3310, 3320, a strong science background, or instructor permission.
