Course Description (for SIS)

Topics covered in the course: review of relativity; introduction to quantum physics, atomic structure, nuclear and elementary particle physics, condensed matter physics (time permitting) and cosmology. Three lecture hours and one hour of problem discussion, weekly.  Prerequisites: PHYS 1720 or 2410 or 2415, and MATH 2310 or instructor permission.

Primary:    Stephen T. Thornton, Andrew Rex, and Carol Hood, Modern physics for scientists and engineers, 5th ed, (Cengage Learning, 2021) [4th edition is also suitable]
