The Journal of the International Association of Tibetan Studies (JIATS) is based upon a THL-designed system for publishing essays and journals. We released a comprehensive update of this system on August 11, 2008, and a refinement in 2010. In addition to a more attractive and user-friendly front end for presentation, we also developed a more streamlined work flow process to reduce the amount of THL staff labor, but also eventually to make the authorial requirements modest. In 2011, we plan to work on the automated integration of essays with THL Reference resources. When this is implemented, place names, text titles, personal names, and technical terms in Tibet will potentially be automatically hyperlinked to their corresponding entries in the relevant THL repositories.
In terms of content, we have just published issue 5 of JIATS, which is devoted to issues of Tibetan religious canons. We are currently preparing issue 6, a thematic issue on the Tibetan-Chinese interface at Wutaishan. On the horizon is an issue on Situ Penchen Chökyi Jungné, the articles of which developed out of a conference on Situ Penchen held at the Rubin Museum in 2009.

Limited staff resources and many projects will sometimes mean activity outstrips documentation.
