Khams

Khams is one of the three regions traditional Tibet was divided into until the collapse of the empire in the 10th century. Khams, or Mdo-stod region is made up of the territory between The Khams, or Mdo-stod, region consists of the territory between Sog-la skya-bo and the upper bend of the Yellow River (Huang Ho). It continues southeastward into what is now the western part of the Szechwan province in modern China. In the Blue Annals it is mentioned as the place Dge ba Gsal is intercepted on his way to Dbus and told of famine. It is also the region where the Vinaya spread during the tenth century A.D. just as the abbot and manifestation of Maitreya, sna nam rdo rje dbang phyug at the time he would learn the text and later expound it in India.
