This itinerary is a eighteen day journey from start to finish, with thirteen days actually spent in Kham. It enters Kham through the traditional portal of Dardo, and then sees a broad swath of major cities in a short time. The geographical arc is heading from Dardo north east to Derge, and then proceeding back south west to Dardo through a different set of roads visting Nyakrong and Lithang. Dege is the traditional cultural heart of Kham, and thus along with it being the farthermost point of the journey, is a natural place to take a slight break in what is otherwise an itinerary marked by constant movement.
