Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) and X3d

Contributor(s): THL Staff.

These are interactive three dimensional models of a place enabling users to walk in rooms, travel through terrain, and otherwise immerse themselves in places. It can be used for modeling buildings, cities, terrains and archaeological sites.

Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) is the older standard for the Web, while X3d is its successor. Unfortunately, neither has been sufficiently supported by browsers. Thus the issue of using 3D over the Web remains problematic.
