First-Time Visitors to THL

Welcome to the Tibetan and Himalayan Library (THL). THL is a non-profit publisher of scholarly and community-based content relating to Tibet and the Himalayas. We publish various collective and individual projects, each with its own distinctive look and feel, but with completely seamless technical integration underlying them. We also believe that creators and not publishers should own their content, while content should also be shared as widely and openly as possible. Finally, we believe that everyone around the world is potentially a scholar - someone who creates valid and important knowledge - and in particular we are committed to the participatory involvement of local communities from across Tibet and the Himalayas.

See the THL Overview for a general written introduction to THL, while THL History provides a brief account of its development from 2000 to the present. For a general overview of the structure and scope of THL publications, please visit our Guide to THL Resources. As detailed in About Us, THL is a consortium of many institutions and individuals offering an alternative vision of cooperation in the production and dissemination of knowledge. Please contact us at nbjmup;uimAdpmmbc/jud/wjshjojb/fev if you are interested in joining the consortium and using THL's facilities to publish your own research and projects, thereby becoming a full participant and thus co-owner of THL.

Because we incorporate languages with non-roman scripts as well as new Web technologies, you will likely need to equip your computer with a few free fonts and browser add-ins in order to use our site to the fullest extent. We have arranged the relevant downloads and information on a single page – please follow this link to prepare your computer.

THL (external link: external link: http://www.thlib.org/) began life in 2000 as the Tibetan and Himalayan Digital Library (THDL) published at a URL that was "www.thdl.org". If you can't find a resource previously published by THDL, please contact us at nbjmup;uimAdpmmbc/jud/wjshjojb/fev.
