**Note that all volumes contain text that will require editing using the new version of Tibetan Machine Unicode, which is not yet finished. (Particularly, common terms like "surya" can not be input with the present version of TMU.)

Introduction
The khro zur gter chos is a large collection of treasure texts spanning several centuries and treasure revealers. Until recently, this 35 volume text was close to being lost forever. Due to the efforts of Dorje Tashi Rinpoche, THL, and other sponsors, efforts are now underway to preserve this text digitally. Presently, scanning and inputting of this text are taking place in Lhagang, Kham under the supervision of THL and Dorje Tashi Rinpoche with a staff of 8 monks and one American student. This purpose of this site for the immediate future will be to document the preservation process and related workflow issues.
Latest updates on input, proofing and digital publication
February 21, 2008 A catalog of vols 1-14 can be found at Khro Zur Early Catalog. This catalog does not represent a final TOC for those volumes, many of which had incorrect letter/number names. A newer TOC has to be made from the latest files uploaded on collab now. The monks were not finished finalizing all the letter names for each volumes so some of the volume designations could change (for example there are 2 volumes named "ga", one of which will likely be changed to another letter).
Volumes 15-23, 26-30, 32-34 are unfinished. 24, 25, an 31 either may have never existed, were lost off the monks' computers somehow, or else were misnamed. The monks are still sorting this out.
We are working on a method with Than for inserting jpegs of musical notatation and unrenderable words into the final html version of texts. For now the strategy is to insert {ILLEGIBLE[page/line number]} in the "Illegible" style in Word so that can easily return to these spots later and insert jpegs.
February 16, 2008 During the month of December we were lucky to have a group of 5 helpers from Amdo. They assisted the monks in proofing several texts and helped with some of the scanning. From now forward the main responsibility for the monks is to proof the remaining volumes and finalize the dkar chags for the entire collection. Aku Dukgar and Aku Gyeltsen are in charge of this with DT aiding them with any significant problems or confusions they may have. To date, they've proofed vols 16, 17, 18, and 19 several times and should be finished with those shortly-if not by Losar. Zach donated a 320 GB hard drive to computer room where all the scans and volumes are to be stored and instructed the monks to keep backup of ALL of their work on that drive from now on. Zach will continue to be in contact with the monks in Lhagang about their work via Skype from America until a replacement (if any) is found for him at KCL.
September 2007 David's summary after speaking with Zach • Proofing 7 times. They print out and look at text in comparison. Zach has told them many times to do a few syllables by a few syllables. But in fact he often observes them chanting 3 lines and then looking. In addition, after a few proofs, or after someone good has proofed it, it seems they then don’t concentrate much on careful proofing and later proofing sessions on that text tend to be done quite quickly. • The text has its own dkar chag – volume by volume. • The work is now in a series of folders corresponding to volumes, and then each volume has separate word processing files for each individual texts. Texts tend to be medium or large in extent – not that many short texts. • However, the texts themselves have absolutely no markup other than single unending word wrapped line. • They also have no line numbers, only page numbers. • So need to talk to DT about how to get markup done. • Jann has some suggestion of a monastery that knew this corpus and would be good to help proof and markup.
June 6, 2007 The entire collection was reordered in April/May 2007 after a discrepancy was found between our various catalogue resources. Right now we are working in preparation for a June 20th deadline - 15 volumes due plus scans and new catalogue.
March 26, 2007 One of the monks did not enter the dates for when he began and stopped proofing. For now, we are writing something to the effect of "bris ma song/" in the metadata table to reflect that we can't get this info.
March 7, 2007 Six volumes that are near completion have been uploaded to this worksite's "Resources" bin under the "Lhagong Terma Input" directory. Otherwise, we have maybe 15 more volumes input that need to be proofed. Our goal is to have 18 volumes proofed entirely by June 1, 2007.
Some problems remain before xml processing and publication: unrenderable words/letter combinations, musical notation, and diagrams need to be inserted into input and marked in xml. The Tibetan Text Input Manual, English version now contains some documentation on dealing with the common problem of subtexts embedded into the main text. Will need to go through every volume to find these instances so we can then markup them up appropriately by hand in xml.
Most input work is stored in Windows XP and Ubuntu drives on Zach's laptop, as well as on all the monks computers and the office thumbdrive. Final drafts of volumes 1-6 are archived on computers 3 and 8 in the Lhagang lab on drives E and D, respectively. Long term goal is for all files to be backed up to an external repository that can be accessed by anyone involved in the project anywhere.
Latest update on scanning pechas
December 20, 2007 Scans for volumes 1-15 are complete, though the monks need to carefully proof their work for pagination problems (of which there are dozens). Lungtok has been trained in the scanning process and assigned with responsibility of completing the remaining volumes and ensuring the quality of the final product. Zach brought scans of vols 1-15 back to America however there are known pagination problems with some of these volumes that prevent us from committing them to the archives / publishing. March 7, 2007 We have scanned 6 volumes total. We scanned in color at 600 dpi resolution. Note that these scans need to be formatted/chopped into individual pages. Part of volume 6 was scanned at 300 dpi. Need to decide whether to rescan this. It does not look bad, but it would be nice to be consistent and is not too time consuming to scan… Need to scan 12 more volumes to meet June 1st deadline.
Scans of vol 1-6 are stored on Zach's external hardrive, as well as on Drive E of computer 3 and Drive D of computer 8 in the Lhagang computer lab.

Presently there is no funding for this. Ethan is looking into options, but nothing much to say now.
