(1.1.5) The Excellent Scripture [on Monastic Conduct]

The two texts in this section seem to represent two variants of the same work, though the first version appears to be incomplete. Little research has been conducted on these texts. Gregory Schopen (2003) has noted that they “seem to represent an independent ordering and treatment of vinaya rules, and there are some indications that this treatment may be older than that found in the better known parts of the vinaya.”
