(2.1.1) Non-dual Tantras that Primarily Teach Both [Wisdom and Method] Together

The first texts in the Highest Yoga Tantra section are the “non-dual tantras,” a term that here refers to works associated with Kālacakra. The section begins with the Mañjuśrī Nāmasaṃgīti (འཇམ་དཔལ་མཚན་བརྗོད་, ’jam dpal mtshan brjod, D.362), a work that is important to a variety of the tantic traditions, and which Kālacakra tradition holds as perhaps the most authoritative text in tantric literature. Reflecting this stature, the Nāmasaṃgīti is placed first among all the tantric texts in the Canon.

Following this is the Sekoddeśa (དབང་མདོར་བསྟན་པ་, dbang mdor bstan pa, D.363), which tradition holds to be an extract from the large Kālacakra “root tantra” (the Ādibuddha Tantra, which is no longer extant). This piece of the “root tantra” is followed by the “condensed tantra” (D.364), which is the work commonly referred to simply as the Kālacakra Tantra. Three ancillary Kālacakra texts conclude the section.
