Chinese Public Holidays

While these are Chinese holidays and have little importance to Tibetans, they are an opportunity for a day of relaxation or a family outing.

Jan 1- New Year’s Day
Jan/Feb- Chinese New Year/Spring Festival
Feb/Mar- Tibetan New Year
Mar 8- International Working Women’s Day
May 1- International Labor Day
May 4- Youth Day
Jun 1- Children’s Day
Jul 1- Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese Communist Party
Aug 1- Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Liberation Army
Oct 1- National Day

In China two major vacation weeks are the Labor/May Holiday (May 1 to May 7) and the National Holiday (October 1 to October 7). These two weeks usually make travel for the foreign visitor difficult as many Chinese are traveling at the same time.
