Out of the box, GeoNetwork provides a handful of search fields, which are described in the GeoNetwork documentation here:here.
To see more transparently how these fields function, the two XSLT files below are very useful: http://geonetwork.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/geonetwork/tags/2.2.0/web/geonetwork/xml/schemas/iso19139/index-fields.xsl?view=markup http://geonetwork.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/geonetwork/tags/2.2.0/web/geonetwork/xml/search/lucene.xsl?view=markup
It is possible to edit the XSLT governing these search fields to add new, custom fields. We're still working on implementing these, but it appears that modifying the two XSLT files above to include the custom fields and how they should behave, is the method of doing this. More details about this process will be added here once we've successfully implemented this.
