That is, exporting the desired fields of the desired records from the FMP database template.
1. Isolate the "desired records".
Do a find for, say, Sihle.
2. Isolate the desired fields therein.
Using "Complete" Layout, list the fields that have any data. To get actual name of a field, apple-l shows the layout which includes the actual field name where there is specific data in browse, apple-b takes you back to browse.
3. Getting the fieldnames in the right order - these will be the top Excel row.
Be sure that the db fields are alphabetized by File->Define->Database. Go to Fields, click view-by, field name. From FMP, select 1 record and choose File. Export Records… as HTML Table. This is the only way DN has figured out to be able to export the field names. Save. This brings up the Specify Field Order for Export box. Transfer the desired fields to "Field export order". Export. Pop open the html file to see if you like, set it aside…
4. Exporting from fmp the .tab
Find all desired records; File ->Export records. set type to Tab-separated text. Save as whatever. Brings up Specify Field Order for Export, it'll remember the order you just set up. Output file char set as Macintosh. Hit Export. You should now have the (sihle)records.tab
