Extracting Titles from Finished Media

Contributor(s): Bradley Aaron, Steven Weinberger

Overview

From time to time we will work with partners who want to provide video for THL from already produced recordings. This media can come in a variety of media formats, and is often shared as a production DVD. The instructions below will allow you to 'rip' the final titles from DVD or other media so that it can be uploaded to the THL Mediabase or imported into Final Cut Pro to edit. THL suggests using Handbrake/--a freely available tool--for the extraction of media from DVDs or other media files.

Using Handbrake to Extract Titles from Finished Media

  1. Download external link: HandBrake and install it.
  2. Launch HandBrake
  3. Click on Source in the upper left
  4. Navigate to the media (the DVD or media file)
  5. Click on Open
  6. A HandBrake window will open.
  7. Click the Subtitles tab
  8. Click the dropdown menu beneath Track and select Foreign Audio Search (or whatever appears in the menu; there should only be one option in the menu)
  9. Click the green Start button at the top of the window.
  10. After the process finishes, you can now import the files into FinalCutPro for editing
