Details for the element "geogname" from the THDL Gazetteer DTD Decoded For Dummies

Definition of the Element

<!ELEMENT geogname (#PCDATA) >
<!ATTLIST geogname >

Description of the Element

geogname = The <geogname> element is a container for the actual name of the feature. Feature class should not be included as part of the <geogname> in the case of administrative features, e.g. Chamdo, not Chamdo Prefecture. Other features may need to retain the feature class part of their name, e.g. Green Lake, Mt. Saint Helens. There are however cases where the administrative feature is part of the name, in particular the 1 syllable counties in TAR like "Ma Township", in which case the style sheet would have to suppress the double-appending of the word 'Township'.

There must be one <geogname> for each <fname>.

Attributes of the Element

geogname is a container element, that is, it only contains content within itself and take no attributes, for example:

<geogname>Lhasa<geogname/>
