Localization

Contributor(s): Andres Montano, Nathaniel Grove, Steven Weinberger

Localization in THL is the translation of application interfaces into Tibetan, Chinese, and Dzongkha so that the website interface is in those languages.

Rails Apps

For each Rails application, there is a separate .yaml file for the Tibetan, Dzongkha, and Chinese translations of the interface. These files are stored in GITHUB along with the Rails code.

Andres has developed a sequence of search-and-replaces that when run on a spreadsheet file transform it into a .yaml file. He needs to document this process (external link: https://issues.shanti.virginia.edu/jira/browse/THLTRANS-105).

Non-Rails Apps

For each app, there is a separate XML file for Tibetan, Chinese, and Dzongkha translations. THL Frame page has its own file of translations. THL Index, Show Menu/Hide Menu in green navbar, and name in banner are images.

Than has developed a way to export translations from a spreadsheet into an XML file. He needs to document this.
