For most THL translations, the goal should be to translate the transcription in a manner faithful to the original language, while still making it intelligible in the new language you are translating into (English, Chinese, Hindi, etc.). In all cases, you must follow the same format of the original transcription when making a translation. For example, if the transcription is of a poem or song with a line-by-line transcription, you must follow this line-by-line format in your translation. Translations should not be mere mechanical word-for-word translations (unless that preserves the meaning of the original), but should also not take too many liberties or 'poetic license' that takes the translation away from the original meaning.
