Digication: Quick-Start Guide for INSTRUCTORS

Welcome to the Digication Quick-Start Guide for INSTRUCTORS.  The purpose of this guide is to show you how to configure and manage the Digication environment as a teaching tool. Instructions on how to build an ePortfolio can be found in the Digication Quick-Start Guide for USERSIn addition, ePortfolio Peer Consultants (ePPC) are available to help you and your students. ePPCs can provide one-on-one consultations with your students, or come to your class for short demos of Digication. You can request a class visit here.  Please review the ePPC website (https://eppc.support) for additional resources.

Before we begin, here are three principles to the design of Digication to keep in mind:

  1. Digicaition can be accessed directly using the Digication Home Dashboard, or through a Collab Course site.

  2. Second, all ePortfolios exist in the user’s Digication Home Dashboard. Even when created in the context of a course (i.e., in a Collab Course Site), the work is actually housed in the user’s Digication Home Dashboard and is only made visible in the Collab Course site through the Digication’s Custom Permission settings which is under the control of the ePortfolio's owner. The Digication Home Dashboard is, ultimately, the user’s “ePortfolio command center.”

  3. Third, unlike a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Collab which is "instructor/course-centered", Digication is a student-centered ePortfolio platform. What this means is that the student (or anyone who creates an ePortfolio) has complete control of the work. Everything from what is in it to who can see, edit, publish, and/or administer it, is controlled by the person who created the ePortfolio.
