Scanning Books and Documents with the Religious Studies Xerox Machine

To scan a book or documents with the Religious Studies Xerox machine:

  1. Press the “e-mail” button on the screen
  2. Press the “To” on the lefthand side of the screen and enter the email address to send the scan to
  3. Press the “enter” button on the screen
  4. Press the Options tab
  5. Press “Build Job”
  6. Press the “On” button
  7. Press “save” button at the top of the screen
  8. Press the “Advanced settings” tab
  9. Press “Original input” button on the screen
  10. Press “Manual Platen input” button on the screen
  11. Set the size of book you are scanning
    1. If the book is exactly one of the sizes in the list, select that
    2. If the book is not exactly one of the sizes in the list, select Custom and then set the dimensions
  12. Push the Save button at the top right of the screen
  13. Begin scanning. Be sure to press the book down flat to get a good, clear scan. Scan each page by pressing the green plastic “Start” button at the lower right of top panel (to the right of the screen)
  14. When you are done, press “build job controls” button at top of screen
  15. Press “end build job” and the PDF will be sent to the email address you entered.
  16. Notes: scan a few pages and check the image quality. If the scan quality is not clear, then adjust the settings. Try adjusting these settings until you get a good quality scan: Image quality tab > lighten/darken and/or Image quality tab > contrast/sharpness settings
