Titles and Credits Checklist

When creating titles and credits print off this checklist to make sure you have followed the correct procedures as they are outlined in the Generating Titles & Credits for Recordings guide. This checklist is only provided as a shorthand way for you to ensure that all titles and credits conform to THL standards, make sure to consult the Generating Titles & Credits for Recordings page for the full guidelines and procedures.

General Titling

❒ Do titles use proper THL Phonetics for all English translations? ( external link: Use THL Phonetics Converter

❒ Do titles use proper definite or indefinite articles?

❒ For trilingual title slates, is there only one language per slate?

❒ Did you include Wylie transliterations for Tibetan in the Mediabase catalog entry?

❒ Have native speakers proofed the final titles for each language?

❒ Tibetan

❒ English

❒ Chinese

❒ Did you use the THL AV Title Lexicon for all translations of technical terminology?

❒ Is there only ONE space after a colon (":")

Titles in a Series

❒ Are the titles in the correct order (specific, then general) "Individual Title Name: A selection from Series Name #01". If a musical recording, group in sub-series by performer or location

❒ Did you follow the convention for series of "integrally related titles?"

Titles in Interviews

❒ If interviewee is giving general and specific information, did you break the interview into two parts?

❒ Did you follow the conventions for naming the title according to the type of interview it is?

Titles of Songs

❒ Did you make a separate title for each song in a performance?

Titles in Architecture and Scenery (without interview or commentary)

❒ Did you follow the conventions for naming titles of architecture and scenery when there is no commentary present?

Title Slate Format (1st Page)

❒ Did you follow the naming conventions for title slates based on length of the title?

❒ If 10 seconds or less, use one title slate with all languages that plays for one second, no credits

❒ If 11-60 seconds, use one title slate with all languages that plays for three seconds, normal credits

❒ If 60 seconds or longer, use standard three-part title and credit slates with all three playing for 5 seconds total

❒ Are the languages in proper alignment? Tibetan on top, then English, then Chinese

❒ Did you include the thlib.org URL and Mediabase ID on the bottom left?

❒ Did you include the date of recording/production on the bottom right?

❒ Did you use the proper Tibetan and Chinese translations from Translation Glossaries for Credits?

Place Page (2nd Page)

❒ Are the languages in proper alignment and using the proper order? Vertical stack of Tibetan, English, Chinese with cultural location followed by national location

❒ Is the place name order correct in Tibetan, English, and Chinese?

❒ Tibetan and Chinese = largest place (China) to smallest (Chuma) from left to right

❒ English = smallest place (Chuma) to largest (China) from left to right

❒ Make sure the smallest site is the focus of the video, for example, if a temple, start with temple name, then do village name, then township. If multiple places in one county, start with county name

❒ For cultural locations, in English and Chinese terminate with the following broad cultural regions. Make sure to include in the English in parentheses “Eastern Tibet”, etc.:

Ütsang (Central Tibet); 卫藏（青藏高原中部)

Ngari (Western Tibet); 阿里（青藏高原西部)

Kham (Eastern Tibet); 康区（青藏高原东部)

Amdo (Northeastern Tibet); 安多（青藏高原东北部）

❒ Is your description correctly formatted for its length (short = one page or long = 3 pages)?

❒ If your title includes the name of a text, did you include Wylie transliteration after phonetics?

❒ Is there ONLY ONE space after colons (":")?

❒ Is the text justified on both sides of the frame?

Ending Credits

❒ Did you make credits in the order of Tibetan, English and Chinese with each on a new slate?

❒ Are the credits shown at 6 seconds total (2 seconds per slate)?

❒ Do your credit slates list the proper credits in the proper sequence from top to bottom? Director(s), Producer(s), Facilitator(s), Cinematographer(s), Editor(s)/Logger(s), Interviewer(s), Performer(s), Filmmaker(s), Transcriber(s), Translator(s), Special Thanks, Sponsors

❒ Did you use the agent form for all credits? Director(s), not "direction", Producer(s), not "production", etc.

❒ Did you properly credit institutions? Example: University of Virginia NOT The University of Virginia

❒ Did you credit performers even if you don't know their names?

❒ Are all personal names translated phonetically into the other languages according to the Translation Glossaries for Credits?

Final Credit Slates (Production, Copyright, Distribution)

❒ Are there two final credit slates (first for license and second for distribution/copyright)?

❒ Did you use the appropriate license for the type of title? (see the guide for license types) Staff produced THL videos, we use “Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA)”

❒ For the distribution slate, did you use the proper format? This depends on whether we did any work on the video besides recompressing. If we did more work than recompressing, use “produced and distributed”, if not use “distributed”.

❒ Did you put the copyright at the bottom of the distribution page in the proper format (© XXX)? This is VERY IMPORTANT and MUST BE DONE CORRECTLY - Check with your supervisor if you have any questions about who holds the copyright to the work.
